Your Local Source for Cabinets, Counters, and Custom Woodwork Since 2006
AJ Craft and Interiors is a family-owned, independent interior contractor that’s been doing business in the San Diego area for nearly two decades. We specialize in cabinets, counters, shelves, and other built-in furniture and designs. We also do custom woodwork upon request.
Unlike most other companies our size, we design and build our own cabinets at our workshop in Vista, CA. That gives us the flexibility to handle any size job and fit to any design and dimensions you need.
Joselito “Joey” Hipolito founded the company in 2006 with his wife Asther, out of the woodworking shop in their garage — their initials are the “A” and “J” in our name. Today, the business is carried on by their sons and daughter, the second generation of woodworkers in the family.
Oliver Hipolito — General Manager
Oliver started tagging along on his dad’s carpentry jobs when he was 9 years old, and began working in the shop as a teenager when AJ Craft and Interiors went into business a few years later. For the past several years, he’s put that knowledge to use as the principal site manager and problem solver for many of our important projects. Like all of our owners, he has a hands-on approach, and you’ll find him assembling, installing, and troubleshooting cabinets in the shop and in the field.
Oliver is also a classically trained chef who’s worked in the kitchen of well-known local restaurants such as Bijou, Cowboy Star, and the Hyatt hotel chain.
Luise Hipolito — Lead Engineer & Designer
A mechanical engineer by training, Luise does the CAD work and shop drawings that bring our projects to life, and she also programs the CNC machine we use for large or complex projects. She handles the majority of bidding and estimating for our projects.
Luise previously worked for Tesla Motors, SynBioBeta, and the Allana Buick & Bers architectural engineering firm before joining the family business.
Ben Hipolito — Production Manager
Like his brother, Ben started learning the woodworking trade from his father as a young boy, and now leads the production team at our shop. He knows everything there is to know about cabinets and counters, from design to assembly and installation.
Ben is also a graphic artist and animator who had stints at Nickelodeon, Disguise Inc., and the Bartlet Jones Supernatural Detective Agency game studio before joining us.
Joselito ‘Joey’ Hipolito — Founder
Our company founder spent a lifetime crafting things out of wood and metal, his hobby growing up on Camiguin Island, Philippines. After a successful career in Filipino TV and movies in the 1970s and ’80s, he moved his family to Southern California and learned the contracting trade, eventually opening his own shop in 2006 — growing it into a successful business and training his sons and daughter to carry it on as he moved toward semi-retirement. Joey passed away in 2023 after more than 50 years as a master craftsman. If you visit his hometown in the Philippines, you can still find some of the things he built both indoors and outdoors even today!
